cell alignment gets deleted when using backspace in a cell
I have a table with cell alignment center, but when I use backspace inside the cells the cell alignment changes to left. How do I set the cell alignment to center without it being able to change?

That will only happen if the insertion point is positioned before the first character in the paragraph concerned. The behaviour is by design. The solution is to not press the backspace key when the insertion point is at the first character in the paragraph concerned.

Ok, but seeing since my colleagues are older and not so well trained Office-people I can't just tell them not to do this which is why I really need to change the design so its not even possible to erase it by mistake. But you are sure it's not doable?

You could go to File|Options|Proofing>AutoCorrect Options>AutoFormat As You Type, then uncheck the 'Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces' option, but that will affect more than just the backspace behaviour, and it applies outside table cells as well. It also affects Word's behaviour for all documents, not just the one you're concerned with.
