Default How to make word autofill characters in a column

Not quite sure how to word this.

I prepare scripts for dubbing animation. There is a column beside the lines the actor reads where I enter the "timecode" of where the line begins. This corresponds to the video in the foreign language.

A typical timecode for example is 10:00:02:21 (hr:min:sec:frame)

I'm sick of entering colons beside every number, is there a way I can format the cells so that they would autofill the colons : between the numbers? So I could just hammer away on the numpad and not have to worry about them? Every code would be in that same format.

Sorry if this is a roundabout way to try and ask for something like this, I'm sure there's an easier way of expressing it.

Thanks!

Word has no built-in method for formatting cells as times, currency, etc. Moreover, even in Excel - which can do that - you'd still have to type the colons, but what you're typing isn't even a recognized time format.

Pirwin, I sympathize. I have the same issue. It occurs to me that you could create a form, in which each number pair would be typed in a field, with colons in between the fields. In a form, properly set up, after typing in a field, a tab sends you to the next.
Also, though I'm not sure if Word fields can do this, you are surely familiar with web forms that automatically advance your cursor to the next field once the requisite number has been entered in the previous. The only issue in this case, would be whether you need to type other text, e.g., actors' lines, after one time code, prior to entering the next TC.
Once the field:field:field:field is created in one cell, it can be quickly copied to the others in the column. You can look up forms; you have to protect the form before you can type in the fields.

Default Time Code form

Here's an example, attached. I used Word's legacy textform, which is more compact than content controls. Enter in one field, tab to get to next. Only the forms are available for typing in this case.

Ah thanks guys!

I knew it was a little far fetched! I guess there really isn't any way to do it in word. It would probably take a whole lot of trouble to find or make a program that achieved the function.

And thanks Ulodesk! Thats definitely the closest I could get to what I want, but it doesn't really save you a key punch, and I'm sure I'd run into formatting trouble.
