Table is page breaking where it doesn't need to
Win10/Word 2016
I'm working on a table--it's a process script, so it's about 6 pages long. I'm doing some editing when suddenly the table page breaks. I look at the page above, and there's more than enough room for the row that has been moved to the next page. I display non-printing characters, and see this: table weirdness.png The arrow is pointing to the mark that Word added to the table--it's clearly associated with the page breaks. But I don't know why Words inserted it or how to remove it. The thing is, I wasn't even editing that row when it happened--I was editing the row below. If I remove some text from row 12, the page break goes away. Any ideas? |

(Referencing the character only) To me, it looks like you are using a Heading style for that numbering position. For example, styles Heading 1, 2, or 3 shows that non-printing character and I don't think it has anything to do with a page break. To remove it simply change the style of the number to something other than Heading 1, 2, or 3.

Make sure that Heading Rows Repeat is applied to nothing more than the top row. Otherwise it can result in a lot of the table trying to repeat itself. Also try setting the wrap to None and not Around. Those are my only two ideas.

The dot appearing before the paragraph in your screenshot indicates that the paragraph has a format such as 'keep lines together', 'keep with next', and/or 'page break before' applied. That could be done to any Style - though it's quite common with Heading Styles and its use with a Heading Style appears most likely to be the case here. Check whether removing the relevant attribute from the paragraph format affects the layout.
