Default Linking between embedded excel and word table

I am trying to create a Word template that includes an embedded spreadsheet.
This spreadsheet has a calculation in it that I want to link to in a word table (as a summary). This means that when the embedded Excel updates then the paste linked value in the Word table will also update. I am creating this as a template. However, when I start a new document from the template the links are gone!. Any thoughts please.

SFG

There is a problem in trying to link to an embedded object based on a template, in that the link will only point to the object in the template, not to the object in the document created from it. Furthermore, if you try to create such a link in a file that hasn't been saved, a crucial part of the link - the filepath - will be missing. In this situation you would probably be better served by using a Word table instead of an embedded workbook.

Hi Paul
thanks for your answer. What has been happening now makes the sense.

I will give the Word table another go, although I have had issues with the calculations not refreshing....

Unless you're using formfields or macro-driving content controls, Word field calculations, though automatic, are not dynamic. That said, you may be interested in my Microsoft Word Field Maths Tutorial, in the 'Sticky' thread at the top of this forum: Microsoft Word Field Maths Tutorial
