How do I stop Word from jumping to the next cell?
I am entering data into a template that I made for 3" x 5" flash cards. The 8 1/2" x 11" page is laid out in a landscape orientation, allowing me to put four flash cards on a sheet of paper. I'm using Windows 2002 SP3.
I want to enter two columns of data in each cell (flash card), using the tab key to line them up. However, when I hit the tab key, the cursor jumps all the way over to the next cell (flash card), instead of being constrained within the cell. I know that I can line things up within each cell/flash card by just hitting the space bar repeatedly, but that's a pain and doesn't seem like the best way to do it. So, to the question: how can I use the tab key--within a cell--to line up my text, without it jumping clear over to the next cell on the right? Or is that just not possible? Obviously, I have tried placing a tab at the position within the cell where I want the text to be, but Word just ignores it and jumps over to the next flash card, as though the tab weren't there. What's with that?! Any help would be much appreciated! |

To insert a tab character into a table cell, or at the beginning of a new paragraph, use Ctrl-Tab.
