Table property adding spacing
But not in the usual way. In the attached document, the box, which is actually a table, adds space above the paragraph with which it is associated. Cutting the table restores proper spacing.
Darned if I can figure out why. I have checked all the spacing on elements of and in the table, but can not find any suspects. I'll be glad to get the true answer to this. |

Try the attached - it's all a matter of what the table is anchored to. You had it anchored to the paragraph below the heading - I anchored it to the heading paragraph.

Yes, but
Thanks, Paul. However, as you recognize, when attached to the heading, it adds space there. In that particular case, the heading, which is styled 9/6 above/below, regains a proportional spacing. However, if I move the box down to, say, a second or third paragraph of text -- such boxes are not always used with headings -- I get the additional space more obviously.
I remain perplexed as to what is causing the space to be added at all. Philip |

I didn't notice that the heading had moved! As a workaround, you could put the table into a textbox - that doesn't affect the spacing. However, you'll then have the replace the orange rectangle with something else (e.g. an orange cell), because you can't put a shape inside a textbox - or you could overlay the textbox with the orange shape. All of which gets messy.

Well, well...
OK, this is interesting.
Placed among paragraphs that have 0 above/below, there is no space added. If I select the para above and the attached one (which, of course, selects also the table), and format format for 6/6, the added spacing appears. HOWEVER, if I remove the /6 (below) from the paragraph above, the extra spacing disappears! I can then use the table vertical positioning relative to paragraph. Live and learn!
