Cool Assigning values to formfield checkboxes in a table

I have a similar issue to https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...g-results.html with my document. I would like to calculate a rating based on the columns per section, starting with 'always at all times' being a value of 5 and 'is a concern' being 1. Calculating a total for each column combined in the rating field (maximum 20). Could you assist me with this?

There are some fundamental differences between your document and the one the code discussed in the linked thread are for. These include:
• the use of content controls, whereas your document uses formfields;
• uniform table layouts, whereas your document has tables with merged cells spanning multiple rows and, in one case, a column that isn't even the full table height.
The existing macro couldn't be modified to work with your document - an entirely new one would be required.

If you're working with a Mac, you can't use either ActiveX controls or content controls...

Your only option is to use formfields, as per your original document, plus a macro to do the tallying. The code would be of comparable complexity to the macro in the attachment to post #10 and you'd have to save the document in either the .doc or .docm format (.docx files don't support macros).

Default check boxes

Paul,

thank you for your help but i am unable to understand adding a macro and running it upon a check box. I have changed the format of the document to .doc and attempted to create a macro but with no success. I would like to have the same kind of function on your original form, where each category is calculated with a 1-5 total rating. Can you assist me with developing a macro to do this? i have attached the document in question.

Default Calculation

Dear Paul,

Thank you for the previous document. I have actually completed the evaluation form using form fields, but need help with the final average at the end. It won't seem to calculate properly...keeps giving an average over 5. Please see the attached document if there is anything you can do.

Your latest attachment is entirely different from your previous one, rendering my work writing a macro that would work with the previous version a complete waste of time. Not appreciated - I have better things to do than waste my time writing & testing code for someone who isn't going to use it.

Since your latest attachment is locked and has no macros, I can't see how (if at all) you're doing any calculations. In any event, this version doesn't require any macros - just formula fields - for the calculations.

Default Checkboxes

Paul,

i apologize for the added work load. I was not sure about the timing of the reply and was forced to move forward on a time line, and I too started over with form fields. Attached is an unlocked copy should you wish to assist.

Calculating the overall average is a trivial undertaking. See attached. I've also simplified your other fields (except for the dropdowns themselves). I note that you have numerous rows with dropdowns etc, but no corresponding text. If you leave those in, they'll skew the results regardless of whether they're completed. You can safely delete those rows without adversely affecting anything other than your layout - if you delete just the fields in those rows, the category averages won't work.
