Numbered lists in multiple tables
Hi! I have a large document with over 100 tables in it. Each table has cells with numbered lists defined by a paragraph style. As I work on the document, some tables randomly 'lose' their 1) starting number. It's like the document wants to number every list in the document sequentially. I found the Restart Numbering button, which will reset the selected list in that cell numbered list to 1), but it randomly alters other numbered lists in the table or document. Also, simply typing in a list somewhere in the document randomly changes numbering in other tables in the document. How do I stop this behavior? I want each table to operate completely independently from the other tables in the document regarding list numbering. Some tables have separate numbered list items in multiple cells, and they all need to start with 1). This is easy to do in Adobe InDesign, but I need to do this project in Word. Thanks in anticipation! |

Rather than using simple list numbering, I'd suggest using Word's Multi-level list numbering, with a two-tiered numbering system that has:
• no numbering at the first level, using a Style applied to the Table Heading; • the )1 numbering format for the second level; and • the second level set to restart numbering whenever a paragraph at the first level occurs. For more on multi-level list numbering in Word, see: http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/wo...010065017.aspx
