Red face Counting how many times a table or a field of a table is used in a document

HI all,

is there any way to calculate how many times an updatable field in a cell is used in a document and have that number be displayed ?
Or, how do I display how many times a repetitive table is used??

the resultant number also needs to be displayed in a cell of the table in word.

I am doing tables that sometimes stay on only 1 page.. but sometimes due to the quantity of information added into cells, it can roll over on to subsequent page or pages.

I have been able to use "SEQ seqnum" to give me the instance number of the cell, copied it to the cell of each new table, Crtl A and then F9 updates it in each instance... that works no probs...each new table is consecutively numbered.

I cant work out how to get the total number of instances of "SEQ seqnum" being used throughout.. that would totally solve my query. Thus I thought there may be some way to show the number of separate tables used in the doc.

Does that make sense? Its almost like "page xx of xx pages"... but with a different twist.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Default

You could use another SEQ seqnum field, with the \c switch, at the end of the document. Or, you could apply a unique Style name to the SEQ seqnum field and use a STYLEREF field to reference that Style at the end of the document. Etc.

A possible advantage of using a unique Style name and a STYLEREF field is that, if you put the STYLEREF field in the header or footer, it'll automatically show you the most recent table #, counting from the top or bottom of each page, depending on which switches you use.
