Table end of row marker appears at the start of table
Hi all,
I have found that in a document in all the tables the end of row marker appears at the start of the table. What is the reason for such a layout? Is there an option to reverse the table to the normal word style. I have attached the document. Thank you |

I am not able to explain it, but if you look at the horizontal ruler in your document, it gets laterally inverted when you select the table. And when you place the cursor anywhere outside the table, the ruler reverts to normal. Have you vertically flipped the tables somehow? I am not aware that there is such feature in Word, but other than that, I can't understand how it happened.
Also, if you convert your table into text, the text matter in the last cell of each row is placed first and that of the first cell is placed last. This again goes to show that the table has been laterally inverted somehow. |

Thanks for your reply Venky. I received such a file from another person, so I am not sure if he has done something. There does'nt seem to be a way to flip the tables

Did you receive this file from someone who uses an Arabic or Urdu language? I do not know how word creates the tables in those languages. Is it possible that Word laterally inverts tables in such scenarios, to match the right-to-left text?

Okay. I found out how it happened. Your tables have their text direction as "right to left" instead of "Left to Right". This property can be set in the Table Properties dialog box. Select the entire table, and right-click. Click on the Table Properties... short-cut menu which opens the Table Properties Dialog Box. Under the Table tab, at the bottom, it says "Table Direction". Here you can choose Right to Left or Left to Right. In your tables, Right to Left was selected.
The bad news is, if you change the direction to Left to Right, it also transposes the contents of the table. So, perhaps doing this will not help you. You may have to write a macro to do this change if you have many tables to change, or perhaps something can be done by transferring the table contents to Excel and tweaking it there. I am not familiar with Excel so much, but it is a very flexible program, and you can practically do anything with the tables in that program. Perhaps some other reader of this forum will be able to suggest a solution. |
