Default Word 2007 Tables - Shift cells backwards one place

Hello,

I'm making flashcards, and I'm using a 2x2 table. I deleted a word and want to move all the cell after the deleted cell backward one cell. It's important that the words remain the the same order, which is why I can't simply delete and choose to shift the cells up or left, since this would put them out of order. For example, if I have a 2x3 table that looks like this:

over monkey
new sound
take only

If I delete the word 'monkey', I want to shift the cells so it looks like this:

over new
sound take
only

Thank you very much for any help.

This may help you solve your problem.
1. Select the entire table. When you do this a new tab will pop up on the ribbon which says Table Tools. Under that there are two tabs: " Design" and "Layout". Click on Layout tab
2. Go to Convert to Text. In the dialog box that opens up, choose Paragraph marks under "Separate Texts with" and click OK.
3. All the text in the table will be converted into different lines of text.
4. Select the word/sentence you want to delete and delete it.
5. Select all the remaining text.
6. Go to Insert, click on Table, and choose "Convert Text to Table
7. In the dialog box that opens up, set the Number of Columns as 2 and choose Paragraphs under "Separate Text At". Click OK

It will convert all text into table with the sequence of words the way you want it.

Unless you go through the kind of process Venky suggests, the only other options are to use a snaking table or Excel. See the discussion here: https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...rows-word.html

Thanks a lot for your help. That's really intricate. No wonder I couldn't figure it out!
