Default 4gb RAM too small?

I'm buying a new laptop for my duties as financial secretary at a private club; I have made a spreadsheet to keep track of dues and expenses. The size of the spreadsheet, as of now, is 970KB. The new PC has 4gb of DRAM; will 4gb be enough to handle the work?

Almost certainly, but the more memory you add the better it will run, and if you can run to an SSD drive in place of magnetic discs it will be faster still. Memory modules are not especially expensive and in many laptops adding to the memory is a simple task. Check that the one you are considering is one of the many, should you find you need more memory.

You current workbook size is less than 1Mb. There are 1024Mb in 1Gb. You have 4Gb, about half of which will be used by your operating system, etc., leaving 2Gb free for applications and data; even then, Windows will create 'virtual' memory on your hard disk, if needs be. I've used a laptop with 4Gb RAM for years now and have never had problems with a lack of it. I have one workbook that is over 30Mb in size and performance-wise, it is quite slow. That, however, is due to it containing over 1million cells with complex formulae that have to be recalculated; RAM isn't the issue.
