Default why is password required to log into windows

Can I bypass the login password to open windows 8.1. I tried to shorten the procedure by creating a 4 digit pin #. that speeded up login a bit. That worked for a couple of times but now that doesn't work and I had to start using my long password to log on. Is there a setting to bypass log in requirement altogether? Thanks for this forum. Bob L.

If it's your own system, you should be able to log in and delete the password from the relevant account. You do this via Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts > Remove your Password.

I tried that. It seems my only option there is to switch to a local account instead of using Microsoft account. it give me warning if I do that. It says apps might ask me to sign in before accessing information associated with my M.S. account. It also says files will no longer exist on my pc unless they are marked for "off line use" and it says the apps on my pc will no longer have access to my skydrive files or folders. I don't know wheather I should do that. what do you think? thanks again

In that case, I'd suggest creating a second account on your PC without a password, and using that to test your access to SkyDrive etc. You may have to do some initial sign-in setup for your SkyDrive account, etc., but at least you'll be able to establish what the full effect will be without having to commit to the change beforehand.
