Sorting Org Chart Information by fields
Is is possible to sort/create an org chart from one Excel file by designating which fields? For instance, I have Name, Title, ReportsTo, Department, Division, Project. This creates one big org chart. Is there a way to say, "I only want the people from this Division", or the "people working on this Project"? There are over 1,000 employees and one excel file. |

Yes it is possible.
I assume you have been using the Org Chart Wizard to build your charts. If so, you can specify the executive at the top of the page and all their underlings will appear on the chart. You can define the wanted sections and remove the top level charts from the last couple of steps with the Wizard. You can also create a copy of the data source and delete the rows you don't want in your chart before pointing the wizard at that new data source. Finally, you can create a macro in Excel that sends the data you want to the Visio drawing of your choice. This is not an impossible undertaking but it is quite involved if you aren't used to automating applications via VBA.
