I draw complex electronic schematics. When I am re-positioning a line and attempting to connect it to two devices it will auto-snap to the drawing border even with the toggle snap turned off. If I drag a reference box with an arrow from Annotations the arrow will snap to the border. Each time I want to re-position any annotation I have to Toggle snap and glue off or it will just go where it wants. This behavior did not always exist. I have turned off everything I can find in an effort to get this annoying behavior to go away.



Can someone, maybe with MS Visio team please tell me what this feature is for and why it magically appeared a while back and how to get rid of it forever on all my templates? I am sure that there are some types of drawings where this feature is helpful but it definitely is not for me. The number of keystrokes or mouse clicks to make a drawing behave is ridiculous.

I doubt you will get a response from someone actually responsible for Visio so I will jump in with some observations.

Is there a reason you don't put the border into a background page and apply that background to the page. The background objects don't act as targets for the connectors so this would solve your problem simply.

The more complex solution would be to consider that there must be a property in the shapes shapesheet to toggle the behaviour you describe. If I put a regular box around the page then I see your described behaviour. But if I add a page border type shape from the existing stencils then the connector ignores them. I tried using my title setup as a background page and it will work for me. I am self taught on Visio and always drawing and never learning so there are a lot of tricks I don't know. I have tried using levels, for example, but inevitably one level does not print which always happens when I'm in a hurry. LOL

Your post has been very helpful and will make my life considerably easier as I can think of a number of ways this application will speed up my work!
