How do I draw a parallelogram and fill it in?

Easiest way is to find an existing shape in one of the stencils supplied with the application.
Go to your stencils and look for the one named 'Basic'. It contains a parallelogram. You can also search for shapes.

View > Task Panes > Shapes
This will show the Shapes pane. In that pane you go to More Shapes > General > Basic Shapes. In the list that appears below that, scroll down to find 'Parallelogram' and drag it onto the page
