![]() When I copy some text and paste to another visio file sometimes it adds line and fill formatting to the text, The text appears in a box with lines around it and the box has fill added. How do I stop it from doing this? |

I would assume that this happens because of a difference in the style definitions between the two documents. Style definitions in turn may be based on themes so I would be guessing and say that you need to ensure both documents have the same theme applied and that the style definitions need to match if you want the content pasted between docs to retain the same look.
Editing styles is hard to find in more recent versions of Visio - I add the Define Styles... button to my Quick Access Toolbar for this purpose.

In that case, you assumed incorrectly. I perhaps didn't make it clear enough - YOU need to edit the styles in the receiving document to match the styles in the source document.
It is likely that the styles are based on themes so you might first check to make sure the same theme is applied to both documents - this is faster than editing styles. Go to Design tab to look at the theme and variant applied. Make sure the Source doc is the same. If the theme/variant is not the issue then you are back at styles. Find the Define Styles command and add it to your Quick Access Toolbar.

Fixed it myself. Visio 2016 is not backwards compatible with 2007, so if you create a drawing in 2007 it works fine in 2016, but if created in 2016 some features do not work in 2007.
The fix is if it was created in 2016 and you want to edit it in 2007 open a new drawing in 2007 then paste the 2016 drawing to a blank page there then it will work in either version. |

That is a clever solution which most likely works because the theme was the issue. I suspect that themes were not a feature of 2007 so you have effectively removed that as a variance source.
Styles were in existence back then though and it was a lot more obvious to find, apply and modify styles in the 2007 interface. I'm not sure what the Microsoft programmers were thinking when they decided to hide this functionality from the more recent interfaces.
