Default Puzzling behavior by Window shape in [Walls, Shell and Structure]

I'm creating a house floor plan and have started by creating walls. When I try to connect a Window shape to a wall shape, the Window shape automatically slides halfway over the wall shape. It should just connect up to the edge of the wall, but instead it is halfway over it. The size of the wall shape does not change.

I know that I can work around this by extending the wall by half of the window width, but I'd prefer to not do that. Can anybody tell me why the Window shape behaves this way and how can I get it to work the way that I want? Aside from this forum, are there other ways to investigate how shapes work?

Thanks!

Default probably figured it out

After further experimentation, I've discovered that the Window and Door shapes etc. are apparently intended to be placed on top of Wall shapes rather than be connected to the ends of walls. This makes sense since it actually is a single wall that windows are installed in, even though in 2D it looks like otherwise.

Can anybody point me to documentation that I could have consulted to learn this as an alternative to the trial and error experimentation I had to conduct?

I used Visio for over 10 years exclusively for floor plans and IT network diagrams and I have never seen any documentation dedicated to the use of Visio. Not saying that there is not any...I just have not seen any. I have since retired and no longer working with the product BUT, there is another Visio forum that you may have better success in finding out...Here is that link: http://www.visguy.com/vgforum/

HTH's...
