Making layer active does not bring new shape to it
I am using Visio 2010; I don't know which version -- its on my computer at work.
I am trying out operations after watching the Lynda.com training course. Having created a new layer and made it active in the layers properties dialogue, I drag a flowchart Process square from the stencil onto my page and check Layer properties again. It shows up in the Flowchart layer but not the new layer. The new layer remains active. I have tried it repeatedly. What am I missing, please? Thanks. |

Prior to my retirement, Visio was 50% of my workload. Nowadays, I have to rely on memory to offer potential solutions (I no longer have access to Visio). With that in mind...
When you create an object on a particular layer does not mean other objects from other stencils belong to that layer as well. They have to be assigned to that layer. So, when you moved a flowchart item from the stencil to your drawing, it will only keep the layers that it was assigned when developed. Now, you can highlight the item and assign it to another layer if you wished but, I don't know your intentions. Sorry this may be a lil sketchy but, I know this board has little activity and wanted to respond. Maybe this will jog the minds of other Visio users to assist. |

Appreciated
Thanks for your reply, Jim. It wouldn't have even occurred to me, except that I watched the demo on the tutorial site performing the action. After failing it myself, I reviewed the tutorial, tried again, then posted my question. Perhaps someone else will know. I already checked Options to see if some behavioral box were checked; nothing I could see.
