Default Floorplan with different tile sizes?

Hi there

I am currently building floorplans for datacentres using Visio 2007.

99% of the floorplans have had floor tiles that are ALL 600mm x 600mm each in size.

However I have come across a floorplan in which certain rows are 600 x 600 and them 600 x 500.

I would welcome any recommendations on how I could easiley create such a floorplan?

To have a standard plan I have simply been using the 'Ruler & Grid' option. However these does not seem to be a way to do this?

I, too, work in Visio with data center floor plans and other facility arrangements.

Reference the "ruler & grid" option, I only use them for reference...not to scale a floor plan. Visio comes with standard stencils to build floor plans with in the Professional version (I do not know if your 2007 version the Professional or Standard version).

Edit: I tried to upload a Visio Stencil that contains floor tiles (and other equipment options) that you could have used to build upon but, alas, this forum attachment process did not recognize the file (gave me an "invalid File" response)....sorry bout that. However, if you google "Visio Stencils" you may come up with some options that may be of assistance (i.e., http://www.visiocafe.com/ for one...there are others).

You did not ask (and I don't know you experience level) but, here are some links that may be of assistance to you as you work with Visio:

Hope this helps.

HI Paul,

To build your floor plan you can use the interal stencils from the Shapes dialog box (left-hand side of the screen when you open a file) and click on "More Shapes" to access the stencils. Then click on "Maps and Floor Plans" / "Building Plan" the scroll all the way down and you will find the Walls, Doors, Windows, etc stencils to build the floor plan. Of course, there are other stencils you may find useful.

I, again, tried to upload a file (.vsd extension) but, again, got the "invalid File" response. Wish I could help further in that regard.

Hope this helps...

Paul,

I did find the floor tile file online where you can download for you building your floor plans. The Visio Cafe link that I provided earlier has it but, you have to look deep for it. Click on this link http://www.visiocafe.com/hp.htm and look for the "HP-Common" file. Download that file (it is a zipped file) and extract the stencils. The stencil "Floor-Layout" contains the floor tiles in different sizes (but, of course, you can edit them to fit your scale).

Hope this helps.
