Visio 2010 Standard Limitations
I've seen the "feature comparison" matrix on Office.com, but it's not that descriptive. We're mainly use Visio as a diagram tool for simple processes. We're basically dropping stencils on the grid, making connections, labeling objects, and sometimes adding detailed metadata to the objects.
For Standard vs. Professional it references "...network and rack server diagrams..." as a feature of Professional, but I'm not sure I understand that. We download stencils from each manufacturer (Dell, Cisco, etc) when building those diagrams, so does it really matter what version we're using? We also frequently use the "Business" and "Flowchart" stencils. Are their limitations on importing 3rd part stencils in the "Standard" version? And is the difference between "Standard" and "Professional" really just less out-of-the-box stencils and maps? Looks like all the rule-driven stuff is in "Premium" so it seems like the difference really just comes down to stencils and maps. Thanks in advance, - Jeff |

I have never used the standard version so, I really did not have a clue. However, I did 'google' to find out and found this link that may be of interest to you:
