Default Mail merge picture into Publisher from URL

I have an Excel spreadsheet that (amoungst many other things) contains a internet URL to a unique picture in JPG format.
I am trying to mail merge the picture from the URL directly into a MS Publisher file. I have tried to mail merge a picture and use the URL field from Excel but the picture is not displayed in publisher.
Is this possible in Publisher 2010, or does it require VB code to perform this action please?

I guess no one knows if this is possible then. Guess I may have to use word instead as I know how to do it with Word.
