Default Importing eps files into Publisher

A couple of weeks ago, I was able to import my adobe illustrator eps files into publisher.

Now all of a sudden it will not let me and tells me the file needs to be converted. When I click on "Convert from" eps or any other conversion it tells me it cannot be imported.

Microsoft has deprecated the Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) image filter as of the April 2017 Product Update, due to security vulnerabilities in EPS files that can be exploited via the EPS filter. The KB article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2479871 contains more information and instructions to re-enable the filter, if necessary.

Is there any information whether they disabled the EPS filter permanently or actually plan to fix it later? Re-enabling the filter is quite complicated; I gave up and uninstalled the update altogether (KB3141538 in my case).

Microsoft hasn't announced its future intentions regarding the EPS filter but, since they don't consider it to be one that's widely used - and because Office mitigates the risk by automatically converting and saving EPS as a metafile (currently EMF) - I doubt a revised filter will be released anytime soon.

Uninstalling the update is unwise, since doing so opens your system to other vulnerabilities as well; better to just re-enable the EPS filter as described in the article if you really need it.
