Default Complex Publisher 2016 flowchart choppy whilst working

I have a Microsoft Publisher 2016 document that is a flowchart. The flowchart contains only 5 pictures, which I have compressed. The chart is large, 25 inches x 25 inches, and over 100 text boxes, colors, arrows, and shapes.

Whilst working on the flowchart things are choppy. It is getting to the point where it is hard to work on the poster-sized flowchart.

I know from working on HUGE MS Excel spreadsheets that there is a way to save a Excel file and clean up the kinds of file problems you get with repeated tweaks to a lot of data content.

Does a "clean-up" mechanism or process exist within MS Publisher 2016?

Thanks in advance.
