Default Implementing excel formula in project

Hi All,

I have implemented a logic to fetch the last value in a set of data(from a set of columns) by a formula like =LOOKUP(900000000000,'Sheet 1'!N1:Z1).
So with this formula I am able to fetch the last value populated in Sheet 1 from the columns N until Z.

If columns X, Y and Z are not filled then this formula fetches the value from column W. And so on.

The issue is that I want to do the same thing in MS Project. So all you excel experts, please help me. Can custom fields help?

Regards.

Hi
Firstly you cannot use Excel formulae in MS Project.
Secondly if you explain exactly what you want to achieve in Project terms then we may be able to advise.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for your note. Let me try to explain the scenario to you.

There are X number of activities added to a project, with start date, end date.
Then they have additional data on the project, like "daily data latest".
This column's data is determined by data in N additional columns. The data in "daily data latest" is the last cell in the N additional columns I talked about in the previous point. A sample project file is attachedhttp://www.mediafire.com/?yey1anz9v49qf1y. If you could help me with that it would be great.

Regards.

Hi
Now I think I understand what you are trying to do. However MS Project is designed to manage progress against a pre-determined timescale for each task. Whilst there is a "manual" way doing what you want in MS Project I dont see any value in it. You are using Excel in this way which is a far better way of achieving what you want do do.
In Excel to pick up the last value in a row I would use the following formula:
=LOOKUP(9.99999E+307,H2:P2,H2:P2)
This will only display the last value in the row H2 to P2. The range can be changed to suit what you need.
Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for your note. I truly appreciate your response. Just to clarify, I am not aware as to how the value will be populated in the last column, but still would there be a way to solve my issue and have the "daily data overall" column populate automatically(based on the value in the last cell)?

Any help would be grateful.

Regards.

Hi
If you use the formula provided above in Excel the "Daily Data Overall" column then this will automatically pick up the last value entered in each row.
Hope this helps.

Hi Tony,

So would =LOOKUP(900000000000,'Sheet 1'!N1:Z1) solve my problem?
But what should I mention as column N and Z?

Regards.
