Default Tracking resources in project

Hi all,

Firstly I am new to this forum and relativly new to MS project. I need to create in MS project a way of tracking where each resource is throughout the project.

There are 8 resources (lets just say they are employees) that throughout the project are being shuffled around to different locations. Each employee is equal in terms of skills etc..

I have already been given a MS project document listing all the activities however the resource sheet has been used for locations and now employees.

What I want to do is create a gantt chart with all 8 employees listed on the left with a gantt showing what they are doing and where.

Is this possible without obviously doing it all manually but instead assigning resources (employees) to tasks and then reversing it?

I hope I made myself clear!

Cheers

Hi
MS Project is a scheduling tool and is not really designed to show you the location people are working at. However here is a suggestion that may work. In your task description you could add in brackets the location of where the task is being carried out. This would then show in the the Gantt chart where a resource is working. Bear in mind that if the same task is being worked on in differing locations you would have to repeat the task with a diferent location in the brackets.
I would also strongly recommend that your company send you on a MS Project training course. The benefits would far outweigh the cost.
Good luck.

I have spent a bit of time using project and I have now allocated employees as resources and by using the resource usage sheet I can see what activity the employees are doing and for how long. This seems to just be a standard facility in project however there must surely be a way to display location in the resource usage calender instead of hours worked?

Do I need to add a new field called 'location' somewhere?
