Stumped on Grouping with Custom Fields...
Greetings!
I'm here in utter despair... I'm going to skip all the introductions and get right to my problem. I often build several "custom fields" in MS Project, such as a Text field called "Discipline" with values 1 through 4 and descriptions of "Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning." I have to use numerical values since MSP insists on sorting them by alphabetical order. (I could use a number field, but it really doesn't matter with this particular problem...) I then assign these fields to my activities, and build a custom grouping BY my new custom field. My schedule then sorts itself by each grouping. In MOST cases, the TITLE of every group down the page is by the DESCRIPTION of my field - in other words you see the words "Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning." However, lately, all I get for a title is the VALUE of the field - 1, 2, 3, or 4. I cannot, for the LIFE of me, figure out how to tell Project to display the DESCRIPTION of each field value, rather than the VALUE of each field... ...value. Does this make sense? It's driving me insane and making me look like a fool! Please help me out... Thanks for reading. Jeff Knapp Manager of Project Schedules Taggart Global LLC Pittsburgh, PA. |

Hi Jeff
Are you able to post a sample so that we can see exactly what the setup is and what is happening. It would really help us to help you. Kind regards Tony(OTPM) |
