Default Unexpected Server Response

I have a project manager that was able to publish an administrative project with resource pool assignments to about a dozen resources, with proper notifications successfully delivered as the project was saved to project server.

The resources were able to enter their specific hours per task (all 12 are assigned to each administrative task) and these hours were waiting for the project owner to accept/reject these changes in his Update page in PWA.

When the PM clicks Update, the project opens in Project Pro on his desktop, and he receives the message: "Updates on this project have been completed. You should save the project to have the changes committed. Do you wish to save now?"

Once he clicks OK, he receives the message:

Unexpected Server Response.
Project Server has returned an unexpected response.
Click the "View" button to view the server response as an error page in your browser.

Clicking View shows the very simple-looking web page with the memory address type message we're all likely familiar with.

Clicking OK on that dialog box then displays this dialog box:

All approved task changes have been successfully updated in Project. If you rejected a task, the resource has been notified by e-mail.

If you have not already saved the projects you updated, you can do so now. The updated tasks will remain in the Update table until the project files are saved.

After clicking OK on that dialog box, in Project Professional, SAVE is clicked on the only project that all these tasks were part of.

Then the following dialog box is displayed (this will look familiar):

Unexpected Server Response.
Project Server has returned an unexpected response.
Click the "View" button to view the server response as an error page in your browser.

Clicking OK results in no tasks being updated. All the tasks remain in the Update page for this Project Manager, with the option to Accept these tasks, as if nothing had been done whatsoever.

So the question is: If this project manager can successfully publish a project from his machine, what is keeping him from accepting the task updates in his projects?

Of course, TEST CONNECTION works just fine in his Collaboration settings in Project Professional.

His version of Project Pro is on SP1 (Pro 2003 11.1.2004.1707.15 SP1)
