MS Project and Excel
I have a project that has typical things such as
Task name , start , end , duration ,...etc with a Gantt chart I also have an Excel spread sheet for this project that I like to combine it with this project. A project can not like Excel have mutiple sheets (tabs) can it ? does this mean i have to combine both in one ? Combining both in one is not gonna look good as both have different columns Thanks |

you can set up a new table and view in MS project which will have the same columns as your excel which will allow you to copy from the Excel into the Project. However it wouldn't make sense to maintain both Unless the excel is providing an "off plan" method of tracking progress which then needs to be fed back into some summary line in the MSP plan? I sometimes do this when there are a lot of independent tasks which would be a pain to constantly change in MSP; for instance the team may have 200 Procedures to update and have calculated the total time needed to do this and are tracking progress against a 200 row spreadsheet and the Excel sheet kicks out the % complete and start/finish dates to be entered into MSP. The excel tracker provides the burn down charts etc which show if the team is winning or behind on the detailed tasks...
