Default Updating an activity

I'm a PM, and I'm trying to use Project to optimize my EV analisys. I'm involved into a construction project, and I want to use a simple example to explain my doubt.

First I summarize main data:

activity excavation
estimated q.ty 300m3
duration 30 days
Amount 1000 €

I fixed a baseline, and then I put the next status date after 15 days. Project would consider a BWCS of 500 € (considering a quantity of 150 m3).

But on site, at that status date, I've measured 240 m3 of excavation. So I should update the activity at 80 % (and not on 50%), and put an actual cost of 800 €, shouldn't I?
