Default BOM (bill of material)

Hi,
Can i attach a bill of material list in my project?
I have the bill of material list in excel format. Can i copy it in Project File and update the status of every component as it arrives in store?
Will every component be added as a separate task or should i use mile stones for every part?

Which is the best way to do it so that i can keep a track of my parts as they are received in store.
Or, should i attach the parts list in project ?
Looking forward to replies.
Regards,
