Define project for specific product(changed quantity)
Hi there,
I'm new to ms project but have been googling for few hours to find solution and I ended up here. Need your help guys. I have create Project that has around 40 process(tasks) in it. Now, I want to insert this project into one I'm currently working on but in larger quantity. For example. Project "bicycle": Task 1. Mount wheels. Duration 1h Task 2. Mount frame. Duration 3h Now. I want to insert project "bicycle" in quantity 10pcs. And want to get: Task 1. Mount wheels. Duration 10h Task 2. Mount frame. Duration 30h Is this possible? |

maybe I have interpreted it wrong.
I have a production of apparatus that includes around 40 proccess(tasks). And now, when my customer order wanted quantity I want to star that "customer project" and just insert project for that apparatus. But every task in that inserted project should be multiplied by wanted quantity. |

I'm afraid this capability does not exist. You can insert projects inside new projects with the "Insert Subproject" command - however the "every task in that inserted project should be multiplied by wanted quantity" doesn't exist. If you have some skills with VBA, I support you could develop a bit of code that allows you to select tasks and multiple the duration or work by a value you specify - but it doesn't exist out of the box.

as workarounds, there might be a couple of solutions
you could export the durations to excel, multiply by the number of units required, then paste back into project (taking out any summary durations- they could make a mess otherwise.) the other would be to put a resource against each task (use the same one, doesn't matter what it is) then reduce to 10% for 10 units. this would multiply the time required by 10 for each activity. As Julie said, Project doesnt do it- it works with what you give it. |
