as far as I am aware, no. you could hide the start/finish date columns, but that wouldn't, I suspect, answer the question.

If a programme is correctly written, ten if the start date changes all tasks will move to suit the new date. The only exception is where there are constrained dates, and if there are more than a handful then it would suggest that the programme is likely to be an inaccurate representation anyway (this does not mean they should not be there, just that a larger number can disrupt a programme).

You should be able to change the start date, and tasks will move to suit the new date. It also offers the advantage that any holiday periods in the calendar will be incorporated and present a true programme straightaway.
