Default Subprojects columns being mixed up

Hello all,

I am a fairly new user of Microsoft Project.

I am trying to add my subprojects to a file and although the column names are all the same and in the same order, the data in those columns is being imported in different orders.

For example, the columns I have are: Project, Phase, Task Name, Detailed Workplan, Duration, Start, Finish. When I import subprojects, most of the data falls in the correct column, but isome data from Phase and Detailed Workplan end up getting mixed up.

Is there a place I need to set up a link between columns before importing??

Thank you all!

How are you inserting the subprojects? No need to import - just click Subproject on the Project ribbon to insert a copy of of the project.

Thank you for your response. That is actually the way I am adding subprojects.

Ah, thanks. What version of Project are you using, please. Project 2016, Project Online? Project 2013?
Is the order of the columns (fields) the same in each subproject? Do you see the fields in the correct order if you expand the subproject file after inserting?

Project 2016.

They are in incorrect order when I expand them, and most of them are coming in this way, a few are coming in correctly with no clear trend as to what causes each scenario.

Sorry for the delay. I am traveling without my Project 2016 machine available. My suggestion, create a custom table with the fields. Copy the table to the global template (Global.mpt). Apply that table to each of the subprojects and make sure you also have that table applied to the master project.

Is it possible that you've switched fields (Text1, Text2) in some of the subprojects?
