Default Assigning number of days

Pretty basic question, but I can’t find the answer in MS Help… I have the estimated number of man days’ effort per resource per task and I want to capture this in the resource allocation, e.g. Person X has 10 days’ work to do on Task Y, which is spread over 5 weeks. The work may not be 2 days per week, I just want to track overall effort. MS Project only seems to allow me to enter a %age. If you put in holidays for example, it changes the %age, which I don’t want to do. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Set the task as Fixed Duration and enter 5 weeks duration. Split the screen to show the task form. Under Resource Names, select the resource and enter to 400 hours of work. Project will calculate the Peak Units and spread the 400 hours of work out evenly over the 5 week duration.
