Default Overallocation not detected and non-working times not being observed

Hello,

I have an issue with a project plan I am putting together.

I have a base calendar of 24/7
I have resources that are of three different calendars 1) 24 Hours, 2) Combined Night adn Afternoon shift ('Log 4x10s AS-NS'), and 3) a Night shift ('PW 4x10s NS').

I have an issue with my tasks particularly the resources that are assigned the varied calendards (being MSMW (PW) and MSMW (Log)) where it appears as though tasks with these resources area overallocated and scheduled outside of their scheduled working hours. (Such as tasks 14 and 15 and tasks 19 and 20 in teh file attached).

There are to be 4 units of MSMW (PW) (hence the 400% in teh resource sheet).

I think this might have something to do with the realationship with 'Work' however I am unsure.

All tasks should have durations that are fixed.

Can anyone please explain to me why this is happening.

My intention is to level out the resources so I can determine if I need more thatn 4x units of MSMW (PW) or more than 1x unit MSMW (Log).

What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance for any help, muchly appreciated.

You seem to have zero hours of work assigned most of the time. Looking at the resource usage view, the MSMW (PW) has a total of 6 hours of work. Not sure how you are entering information - but zero hours of work with cause 0 assignment units and no overallocations.

Hi Julie,

Thank you very much for your time and reply.

I have had a look at the work units in an attempt to reconcile the resources.

I have changed the tasks to fixed work and put in the number of hours of work required on the task.

For example in the attached revision

Task 8 has a duration of 6 hours and has work of 24 hours (reflecting that 4x people (MSMW (PW) are required to work on the job for 6HRs each concurrently to achieve the duration)

This approach however has still allowed over allocation of my resources (max 4x people (MSMW(PW))) as can be seen in tasks 7 and 8 occuring concurrently with all 4x MSMW (PW) resources assigned.

Have I missed the concept here? Why is the overallocation still occuring?

The assignment for MSMW(PW) on Task 7 ends at 3:01 am on 3/31. The assignment on task 8 starts at 7:27 am on 3/31. While the tasks overlap - the assignments do not. So, no overallocations are there. The MSMW is only scheduled for 3.98 hours on task 7.

You're welcome. You can add the start/finish field to the Resource usage view to track down the details of when resources work on assignments.
