Multiple resource assignment
I have been assigned the wonderful task of compiling a full resource listing for all of our works that can be added to our standard Project layout.
We have a number of resources available that need inserting as a group- for example surfacing requires a paver, roller, supervisor and 7 general operatives. Excavation requires excavator, dumper, supervisor, machine operator, general operative, or may be amended to large excavator for other works. If I have resources that cover the above separately, (so resources would be general operative, machine operator, paver, excavator etc), can I set up resourcing so that a set of resources can be added? Grouping is already being used (this defines the subcontractor) but that could be amended if necessary. thanks |

You can certainly create a resource names "paving resource" but if the supervisor in the paving crew is the same supervisor in the in the excavation crew - you won't be able to keep track of hem

Gangs for separate activites would be separate, so a paving op wouldnt be used drainage. reading my first post again, I think I missed out the important bit.
I get progs from other planners, who are a bit shy on resourcing. the best I am likely to get is "drainage gang", "surfacing gang" or similar. I need to replace this with a more detailed breakdown as one of our major clients requires it this way. I could go through the programme and filter by resource name, then paste in new resources, but it would be preferable if I could use a global setting that would do this for me. Sorry if I ama bit disjointed, too late really for me, probably look at this tomorrow and wonder what i was trying to say |

I'm not sure what 'global' setting you are expecting. You can replace a resource with another using the Assign resources dialog.

Reading my last post, I should have gone for the sleep option first!
In the progs I receive, resourcing is put in as "drainage gang", "paving gang", etc. A drainage gang (for example) consists of 1 drainage ganger, 1 drainage machine op, 1 drainage operative, 1 drainage dumper, and 1 drainage excavator. What I need to do is for every instance of "drainage gang", replace it with the 5 separate resources listed. Work done will remain the same, even though the number of resources id 5 times greater (in work hours). The only way I can see to do this is set all activities to be time based, replace the initial resource with the detailed breakdown (filter and cut/paste) then set tasks back to work based. What I would prefer to do is be able to use either an inbuilt Project function (dont know of one yet) or if a macro or VB would do it. The reason for this is to be able to view total resources by manpower/ plant in a visual report, as opposed to just gang numbers, as one of our main clients wants to see this. Our resourcing is bot as detailed, as its not needed at that depth. thanks |
