Unhappy Duration & Work Hours Not Close

Please help me -- I have a project Duration of 379 days and the Work is showing 27,797.65 hrs -- how could this be? I don't know what I am doing wrong? Here's a view of the insanity of these hours & days -- YIKES! How can a 21 day task equal all different amounts of work hours (they aren't even close to each other?) HELP ME PLEASE! THANKS!

How many resources do you have assigned? Have you assigned resources to the summary tasks?
