Default Start date of successor task does not change

Using MS Project 2013. I noticed that increasing the duration of a task does not change the start date of the successor task if the successor task %completion is greater than zero. Why is this and is there a work-around?

Thanks

No it will not change because the successor task has an Actual Start date and Actual Start dates trump scheduled start dates. If a successor has been started, why would you want to change the start date later on?

However, if you have allowed splits in in-progress tasks (Options, Schedule) the successor task's remaining work should be scheduled based upon the original link relationship.

Hi Julie,

Let's say I have 100 tasks which are all linked. If I increase the duration of task #1 by 5 days, I would like the Finish Date of task #100 to be pushed back by 5 days as well. However, if task #20 is 10% complete, it causes problems.

Regarding your second question, are you referring to the (Options, Schedule) option called "Split in-progress tasks"? If so, the option is checked.

What are the links between your tasks Finish to Start? Start to Start? If everything is linked Finish to Start AND the tasks are autoscheduled AND you have split in progress selected even if task 20 has an actual start date (before its predecessor finished) and remaining part of the task should still be honoring the F to S link.
