Default Two Views - Want Different Fields

Using MS Project 2010...

Suppose I copy Gantt Chart view which has fields A, B, C, and D displayed to NEWVIEW. I then display NEWVIEW and hide field B. When I go back to the Gantt Chart view B is hidden. I thought the whole purpose of creating a new view was to allow you to immediately view different sequences of fields related to the same data. Whatever I do to either Gantt Chart or NEWVIEW is automatically done to the other view.

I want the Gantt Chart view to display fields A, B, C, and D and the NEWVIEW to only display fields A, C, and D. Am I not understanding the purpose of different views or just doing it wrong?

Hello,

I agree with you that the MS project views system is a bit strange.
If I understand correctly how it works each view is associated to a table.
A more that one view can share the same table.
So I would guess this can be your problem.
Gantt chart view and yor newview are using the same table. So when you add/hide columns this is modified in the table definition. So no change when you select the other view.
You can create a new table when you are on your newview and then add/hide column. Then going back to your gantt view will bring back the original and not modified table.
I'm working with Project 2013, but I guess it should be similar in 2010.
