Default Microsoft Project holiday integration

I have a gantt chart with lots of scheduled tasks already placed however we have a public holiday that falls on a Friday and a Monday.

Is it possible to highlight throughout the gantt when public holidays are or scheduled factory shut downs so work can be scheduled around them?

One of the things that Project si very good at

I dont know what version of project you are working in, so the mechanics may differ. If you go to calendars, at the bottom of the dialogue box you will see "Exceptions". Put in the start and finish dates of the non- working time, name it as you wish, and it will then show on the chart, along with not allowing tasks to be carried out on these days.

I am assuming you have not created any special calendars, and are using the default, if this is not the cae let us know and we can run through altering several calendars.

In Project 2010, go to the "Project" tab and select "change working time".
In Project 2007, go to the "Tools" tab and select "change working time".

Dont have versions prior to this Im afraid, but a quick run through the menu tabs should give you a similar option.

Welcome- personally I find that doing anything in Project isnt that hard, but knowing where to find it tends to be

As for expert- I have used Project for civil engineering companies the last 15 years or so, maybe more, but only became a dedicated planner 8 or 9 years ago. My main software was Project as one of the more dominant clients (London based, public client) uses it. I have had to use Primavera for the last few years (these days I am more involved in rail projects, above and below ground) and its unfortunately the de rigeur software there.

Project I find to be better (although many will disagree) as its simpler,e more intuitive, does not need a 5 day course to figure out how it works, has better features- ah, the list goes on and on
