I think we're getting wrapped up in some terminology issues.

A view (like the Gantt Chart View) is usually made up of a table (left side with columns) and a graphic.

The default Gantt chart view shows the Entry table but you can show different tables (Cost, Work, etc).

You want to create a new VIEW with different formats on the Gantt chart graphic. (Red bars, blue bars, etc).

You can create a new table and apply that new table to a custom VIEW.

I've created a Printing_Table where the only field (column) is the ID column. The table contains no other fields.

I create the new view (Printing_Gantt) and apply the Printing_Table to the view.

Does that make sense?

Hmm. Strange. For your custom Gantt view, the footer centered...for mine it won't. There is the difference though that you are showing the ID column...maybe that's what it is. I've been using a table with the ID column's width set to 0 b/c I don't want it showing either. I'll have to try showing it. Are you using Project 2010?

Yes. Project 2010 SP-2 with the latest public update installed. I see the same thing (or close to) when I set the ID field width to zero.

Default I give up...

I can't get around this problem. I can create a brand new blank document and the problem persists. It's specific to new views (not tables). The only thing different between what you're doing and what I'm doing is that you have SP2 and I only have SP1 installed. I'm convinced it's a bug and maybe when my organization updates Office to SP2 it'll correct itself.

Thanks for trying to troubleshoot this for me...

Ah, you didn't let me know you weren't on an up to date system. SP-2 and several of the cumulative updates resolved issues with printing. I would encourage your group to update to SP-2 as soon as possible.

I just upgraded to SP2 v. 14.0.7015.1000...still experiencing the problem.

What version of SP2 do you have installed?

I am running 14.7141.5000. I have SP-2 plus the most recent public update installed. See: http://blogs.technet.com/b/projectsupport/p/msp10.aspx

for the list of all cumulative and public updates.

I just got SP-2 v.14.0.7145.5000 installed and the problem is persisting. I was able to replicate the problem on a colleague's MS Project install as well. All I did in this example was open a new project file, enter a dummy task (blah), create a new Gantt view (view 1) and apply the view.

If you save as a PDF - does the issue persist? If it is on an actual printer - check to make sure you have the most recent printer drivers installed. Can you switch to another printer?

I thought for sure I had figured it out...I realized that when my IT department updated my service pack, they updated my MS Office service pack and I noticed that I was still running SP1 for Project in the licence info. So today I had them update my service pack for Project to the latest CU, but unfortunately the problem is still occurring, whether I send a file to the printer or Adobe Acrobat.

I've scoured the net and nobody seems to have reported this problem, yet I can replicate it on a colleague's computer.

I guess I'll just have to work around the issue.

I'd check to make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed. If you create a new project and do not create a new view - just enter a task and print preview - does the problem persist?

Just hooked into a different networked printer, received a message that print drivers were installed, went to print preview, same problem.

The problem only occurs when I try to print a custom view. Default views don't have the problem.

Can you give me step-by-step instructions about how you are creating the new view?

I cannot re-create this a you are the first to have this trouble in my experience.

Can you attach a sample file to this thread?

Default Steps to create a new view part 1

1 - A random task entered into the Entry table
2 - Print preview of the default Gantt Chart view
3 - Select More Views... menu to create a new view
4 - Select a Single View
5 - Simple view definition...
