Default What are the implications of changing project start date

My project start date is set to 09/2014. What happens if I change the project start date to 02/2015?

I have tasks that started in 09/2014. What will happen to these and other tasks?

Thank you

It depends upon whether you have updated the task from Sept 2014 or not. If your tasks are auto scheduled, constrained with no constraint other than ASAP, and do not have an actual start date, then changing the start date of the project should change the dates for all tasks.

If you have set Actual Start dates then you will get a message from Project about tasks before a Project start date when you try to move the start date.

Have you entered progress against any tasks? I'm guessing you have negotiated a new baseline?

Thanks very much Julie!

I spot-checked several tasks and their start/finish dates did not get affected by the project date changed (which is good).

At the time I changed the project start date, I had not created any baselines (which is also good).

A few of the tasks were 100% complete. These were also not impacted by the date change.

Question: Why did you ask about the baseline?

Thanks again!

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.

Once a task has an actual start date, it won't move nor will a task that is 100% complete.

I asked about the baseline because I wouldn't want to be compared against a baseline on a project that started 4 months late :-)
