Default Network Diagram: different colors on different boxes

Hello All,

I have a 285-line schedule that I need to turn into a network diagram and print, for better vizualization at a coming meeting. I need to color boxes (tasks) in different colors to represent functions, e.g. EHS, Finance, Subsurface, etc, so when people look at the diagram they'll know where, what department the task comes from.

By default the diagram comes in two colors, red for items on the critical path, and blue for those that are ok (by the way, it is blue on my screen, and also blue when I print it but if I right-click on the box it'd say "No color"). So I tried to right click on boxes and assign colors but I can only do it to "red" boxes; those that appear blue but say "NO color" stay blue no matter how many times I tried to change their color. Is there some weird setting that I need to adjust that I am missing?

Also, the weirdest thing: when I try to print the diagram with at least several boxes colored differently, e.g. yellow, as a trial run, it keeps printing in red and blue only - even those boxes that are yellow on my computer screen!! Arrgh!.. Is there anything I can do about it?

Many thanks for your help.

I'm not seeing that in Project 2010 with SP-2 and the latest cumulative update. I can select any box, right click, select Format Box, and change color.

What release and updates are applied?

Hello Julie,

This is my work machine so all the software including MSP was uploaded by our IT back in mid-2013. I just checked the properties - it doesn't show anything on the release and/or updates. I called the IT and they don't think that my MSP was ever updated between 2013 and now.

The first step is to have IT apply all available service packs (SP-2 is the current) and if permissible, apply the latest cumulative update to patch issues since the SP.

See: http://technet.microsoft.com/library...13(v=office.14)

for the latest updates.

Got Sp-2 installed though that was as far as our IT would be willing to go. Didn't solve the problem.

Then someone reminded me that we actually have access to a contracted provider, a software help company that covers Microsoft products. Long story short, tasks that wouldn't change color turned to be those that were manually scheduled (vs auto-scheduled).

Ah, great. I'm glad you were able to work things out. I so rarely use manually scheduled tasks that I forgot to check those.
