Formula for cum work in Project 2003
Still using this version - works fine for me. Task usage has cum work option, but no corresponding field is offered to use in a column. What formula is possible using the available fields MSP 2003? |

Cumulative work is a timescaled field. What are you trying to accomplish? If you want to know how much work has been performed, that is Actual Work. If you want to know how much work is left, that is remaining work. If you want to know how much work in total was planned, that's baseline work. All of those fields are also visible in the Project Summary row to roll up all the values for the entire project.

I want to show cum scheduled work to the status date for each task in a table column to help my cost control person understand the BCWS values that MSP calculates. I understand that this is displayed in the timescaled task usage field. Therefore it must be calculated internally by summing the timescaled scheduled work to the status date, but it is not offered as a custom field in MSP 2003. It appears that it is in later versions, and I am wondering if there is a formula I could use to customize a field to display in a column.

Sorry, none of the fields in the table are timescaled data, they are summary data. Later versions do not offer any cumulative fields in any table view, only in timescaled views such as Task or Resource Usage.I suggest showing the BCWS data to the cost control person in the timescaled view along with the other timescaled values.
There is not, to the best of my knowledge a method of calculating that data through a custom field in a timescaled view. It may be possible through VBA, but I am not the person to aid you there, sorry. If you know VBA, you may try posting to the Microsoft Forum for Programming: https://social.technet.microsoft.com...ct2010custprog If you choose to post there, please explicitly state that you are using 2003 as things changed after that release. |

Thanks, Julie. I am a long-time user of scheduling software - was a beta tester for the original Timeline in the 80's! Back in 2009, I was working a master schedule for a major government contract and needed a way to trace all predecessors of a specific task- got a macro from Jack Dahlgren that I used, though I am not a VBA programmer. Reviewing this I note you were active as an advisor/moderator even then. We users owe you and the others a great debt for your service. Thanks.

Thank you for your very kind words.
Yes, I have been loitering in various Project forums and newsgroups for a very long time. |
