Default MSP 2013 - A new column needed a bit like resource names

(Sorry for the weird title - newbie here )

Ok, when you have the resource column, you can tick more than one resource for each task, ie I can have Chas on one task, Dave on another and have Chas and Dave working together on others. This is great.

I am scheduling works between different buildings, and have a Text column that I renamed to "Building". So far it has been one task, one building, straightforward. So one task is in "The Character Building" another task is in at "Circle Square".

Now, one of my (recurring) tasks is to be done in seven buildings on the same day so rather than repeat the task 7 times, I've put it in once, and in the buildings column wanted to have all 7 buildings named / ticked -(similar to how you would if you were assigning resources). So these tasks need to have "The Character Building" and "Circle Square" in the "building" column.

Hope this makes sense, and is this even possible please?

Sorry, no. There aren't any other multi-value fields in Project like the Resource Names field.

Ah, thanks for the reply.

I don't know how to tackle this then. At the moment, I've got one recurring task with Dave as the resource name and all the buildings separated by columns in the Building (text) column. Hopefully this will suffice and when I need to print a particular buildings jobs, I will have to remember to filter for that building AND the one with multiple buildings in it.

Either that or do a separate recurring task for each building, which I wanted to avoid as it could get unwieldy.

Thanks for the reply though, I'll see how it goes.

Hi Peasy,

The issue is going to be what reports you print. If the building data is in a text field (which it sounds like it is) you should be all set with printing from a task view or task report. The problem will come if you try to look at the data in the Resource Usage view, for example. Task data does not appear in the Resource Usage view - only resource and assignment data.

You can certainly type the multiple building names in the text field as it does allow multiple values to be typed in - but when filtering you'll need to use a "contains" instead of "equals".

Thank you
