I am developing a Project Schedule and trying to use Font Color in the Gantt Chart Table to distinguish tasks by department.
Everything was color coded and I had about 250 tasks in the table. Then I added about 75 more and started having problems. Now as I change the font color on new rows, the font color on big blocks of other rows will revert back to Automatic Color (Black). Very annoying. Any body run into this? Any fixes? |

There is a limit of how much "direct" formatting you can apply in Project. You can apply formatting to Gantt bars by Bar Styles formatting - but the limitations are in the Text formatting. How many departments are you trying to track? Have you considering using a spare text field and filtering? Have you used the group field in the resource sheet to track departments? If so, you can add the Resource Group field to the table for highlight filtering.
Please also ensure you have Project 2010 up to service pack 2. |

All those are options, but coloring the Tasks by Department (only around 6 groupings) provide a quick visual reference. Frustrating that I can't do that. Have already put in an IT request to make sure SP2 is installed.
Thanks. |

Have you considering grouping tasks by the Department field for a quick visual? Again, you can filter, group, or change colors of Gantt bars.
