How can I display the outline headers by text, instead of the outline number in a separate field. In other words if I indent a task, it becomes subordinate. i want to show the higher tash heading left of the subordinate task. Outline numbers follow that rule, but the numbers themselves are not explanatory.

To the best of my knowledge this isn't possible without some custom programming.

You can show a task summary name in the Resource Usage view - add the field Task Summary Name. But it is not available in task views.
