Default start and finsih dates after saving template

i saved a template from old project and now some start and finish dates look funny because although for example the duration is lets say 10 days, finish date is may be 4 months away from start date and nothing else is affecting anything. and then when i first make the duration 0 and then 10 again, it calculates normal. it is like this on many activities. why might this be the case? (and if you just try to rewrite the duration there it doesnt work and nothing changes for example if it is a 7 day activity and i just go over the duration cell and write 7 nothing chanegs. i first need to make it 0 and then make it 7 again and only then it calculates correctly)

also the durations of some summary activities calculate as decimal for examplke 143.25 days even though i completely and manually made every duration under it first 0 and then back to a whole number duration again. why is this happening also?
