Default milestone with more than 0 day duration

in the milestone column i marked yes for an activity of 4 days duration (which happens to be a critical activity). and it became a milestone, still with 4 day duration but it is not shown as critical anymore , it is not in red at least. is it still critical? how does a milestone with a duration differ from a milestone of 0 duration? when we say milestone we understand by default 0 day correct?

A milestone by definition is a 0 duration activity- it is not an event in itself, but signifies that other tasks have been completed or that a point has been reached. Even the help within Project indicates this.

I cannot see how a 4 day activity should be marked as a milestone. If you need a milestone at this point, I would suggest inserting a new activity after the 4 day event (call it "xxx complete or whatever is significant), and link the 4 day activity to this, with the successors being transferred to the new milestone.

If you look under format (on the main tabs), choos format/ bar styles, you will see that a milestone is shown as a diamond- a 0 duration task.
A new item would establish the milestone, without affecting th eprogramme.

well the program marked it as a milestone and that is my question. how can a 4 day activity be a milestone? in addition to marking it as a milestone, the program also made it noncritical (as least it is not red in color anymore). so my question still stands... anyone?

You may mark any non zero duration task as a milestone through Task Information, Advanced. I never do it as I follow the usual definition of milestones = zero duration.

The color of the task bar does not necessarily indicate that the task is not critical. Check the Total Slack for the task to see if it is critical.
